Real Change. Real Women. Real Hope.
Your support helped women in Middle Tennessee take bold steps forward this month. Here's a quick look at what happened at 431 Ministries in July—and how your impact is still unfolding.
Re:Storing Futures
Learning to Stay Safe
This month our Re:Store Class series featured the 102 class in the safety category: True Safety. While the 101 class, simply named Re:Store Safety, outlines how planning, staying alert and communication are key to staying safe, Re:Store True Safety highlights the underlying (emotional) decisions we make to stay safe. This includes learning to identify who is trustworthy and who isn’t.
While it can be easy to think that everyone has these skills, our women generally have never learned how to identify these safe people. Take our client Jane* (not her real name) for example. She is ready to start dating again and met up with a guy in a public place. While she verbally told him what her boundaries were with physical touch, she kept allowing her boundary to move by reluctantly engaging physically. In her own words, she “let him” go too far, but she was unsure what to do in the moment other than verbally stating her wishes. Later she realized that her “no” was NOT something he had believed because of her lack of actions and follow through. In a coaching session, we walked through the whole evening, and where her behaviors led to consequences she had to face and deal with. Jane had a real “aha” moment of the importance of action in safety and boundaries.
This story is really hard to read, but it does outline why a class like Re:Store True Safety is so important. It teaches our women the skills they need to identify safe and trustworthy people in their lives, or even just who is appropriate. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of knowing you can’t share your deepest, darkest secrets with your boss - that might make things weird. In general, a boss is not the right person to share dating woes with, but a trusted friend, counselor or 431 Staff Member is. Knowing who will protect your privacy, hear you with love, and still willing to challenge false beliefs is key to staying out of potentially harmful situations and growing in confidence.
Tailored Advice
Every month, we host a 1:1 Careers & Finances opportunity. This allows women to sit down with one of our financial mentors to go over their finances and ask any questions. We also have volunteers providing career coaching. This can look like doing a mock interview, practicing job applications or talking about how to present yourself professionally. These are all 1-hour sessions and we encourage the volunteers to create next steps with the client. We then follow up with our clients to keep them accountable! If the volunteer is willing, a follow-up meeting with the client can be arranged.
This is such a meaningful opportunity for our clients. They get to actively participate in becoming more independent and oftentimes have to face some hard realities within these one-on-one sessions. However, we see the growth! One of our clients recently and unexpectedly became a widow. She is now having to take over all the finances for her and her children. By meeting with one of our financial mentors, she is learning how to make a budget, got a job and is navigating a tricky situation with her Trust. Instead of letting others do it for her, she is taking the responsibility (that was unforgivingly thrust upon her by the death of her husband) to care for her minor children. Our financial mentor is a financial advisor and she has made a great connection with him. He is helping us sort out the mess and we are so grateful for his expertise.
What does Re:Store, Re:Build and Re:New mean?
These three terms refer to the three areas that break up all of the services that 431 Ministries offers. Re:Store focuses on basic ‘life skills’ such as finances, planning and commitments. Re:Build encompasses our Side-by-Side Program. Re:New focuses on spiritual well-being. You can read more below!
-
This set of 5 topics make up 10 original classes that have been researched and developed by 431 Ministries. They are uniquely designed to address the complex challenges women face after hardship, including financial instability, emotional recovery, and rebuilding relationships.
Grounded in real-world experience and guided by evidence-based practices, the Re:Store curriculum equips women with practical tools for immediate use. The classes address critical areas like safety planning, emotional financial decisions, and communicating effectively.
-
The Side-by-Side Program at 431 Ministries is a personalized coaching model for women rebuilding their lives after hardship. Each woman is supported by a dedicated Re:Build Care Team—including a staff advocate, personal and financial mentors, access to subsidized professional counseling, and additional support volunteers. Through our copyrighted Re:Store Me Assessment, each Participant identifies strengths and barriers across 16 key categories, focusing on the relational skills needed to develop proper trust, ask for help, become more resourceful and pursue long-term goals.
This relationship-based model isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s designed to meet each woman where she is. Coaches use 431's Leading with Questions© method to guide each woman in creating a customized plan, setting goals, and taking confident steps toward independence.
-
These remaining 5 topics—Independence, Value, Emotional Health, Purpose, and Restoration—are taught as intensive mulitple-week classes to address the complex emotional and relational challenges faced by women who have experienced significant hardship.
Each course provides a trauma informed, faith-based framework for processing issues such as abandonment, grief, fear, control, and identity, equipping participants with tools to build emotional resilience and long-term stability.
Currently, only the Emotional Health and Value classes have been fully developed, with the remaining three still in need of sponsorship for research, design, and implementation.
Re:Building Confidence
From Strangers to Friends
Family Meal July 2025
One thing that we hear over and over again with our women is that they feel alone. This is especially true for new women reaching out to us for help. When you compare some of our clients back when they initially reached out to now, it shows a huge difference! They come in so weary of others - and with good reason! But when they immerse themselves in the community we offer, open up to the other women and share life with one another, they bloom and grow. Just this month, during our monthly luncheon for our clients in the Side-by-Side Program or actively working towards it, they started planning a Bible Study to do together. To us as staff, this is such a fulfilling moment. Yes, we will continue to host these opportunities where they can keep building community, but them wanting to see each other outside of things we host is what it’s all about! They are forming friendships, and it’s wonderful to watch it happen.
Equipping our Volunteers
The Side-by-Side Program is our flagship program, and it relies heavily on volunteers. These volunteers are people like you and I who have a deep longing to serve the women 431 serves. For them, that means being a mentor. This is not an easy task. In fact, it is a huge time commitment, as well as emotionally and spiritually difficult. But it is also very fulfilling. Here’s one of our most recent training attendees’ experience:
“I recently attended Side by Side training at 431 Ministries. And I am so glad I did. The information shared was eye opening . I left feeling that I want to support other women, whether through education, shelter, career mentorship or simply showing up, there is a need. And I have something to share. We were not made to be alone. Side by Side training is all about community. A special place with special people.” - July training attendee
If you want to learn what our recent attendee learned, we would love to have you for our next class!
Building a Support Team
We had three mentor pairings this past month! Lining up the right mentor with the right client is no easy feat. We carefully consider personality and approaches to success. Some women may want to be pushed more aggressively than others. Age difference can also be a factor. Many variables have to be considered before we set up a meeting for client and mentor to meet. When they hit if off, we officially pair them! Two Side-by-Side Participants are now paired with their personal mentor and one with her financial mentor. We are eagerly awaiting to see the progress and growth that comes from this!
Re:Newing Hope
We kicked off the second round of Re:New Self-worth this month. The class title is deceiving, however, because it really focuses on putting down self-worth (which is a value we assign ourselves) and picking up our value in Christ. It goes over all the different identities we have with Him: friend, bride, greatly loved, etc.! Here’s how this class is impacting one of our attendees (who is now going through the class for the this:
“The Self Worth Re:New class has been such a blessing. It has helped me see and believe that my worth is who God says that I am and not who the world says [I am]. It’s helped me to realize when I’m starting to doubt or talk down to myself a lot quicker and I turn to Him to remember that those are lies from the enemy. I am His daughter, I was chosen and I am greatly loved. Because of everything I’m learning in this class I’m becoming more confident and getting so much closer to God.”
2025 Impact
In July, we served 38 unique women through 1:1 coaching sessions, group learning activities and community building opportunities. We received 9 new requests for help. We also had a total of 105 attendances this past month. All 2025 cumulative totals can be viewed in the graphic.
